15 lives lost in rain related incidents in Meghalaya since April

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts in Meghalaya as it predicted ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall till July 3rd.

“Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of East India during the next two days and over northeast India during next 5 days,” the department said.

The monsoon hit Meghalaya on June 9th. The arrival of monsoon has brought along with it a spell of disaster and death across the state.

Altogether 15 lives were lost due to Disaster and Natural calamities in the state from April 15th to June 21st.

Around 376 houses were damaged. Total numbers of villages affected are 200 and total population affected are 13,704.

The Revenue and Disaster management Department on Friday will hold a meeting to discuss various disaster calamities and the lives lost.

This was informed by Minister Incharge of Revenue and Disaster management Kyrmen Shylla.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Mawsynram received 199.6 mm of rainfall. Mawkyrwat received 173 mm of rainfall and Sohra received 172 mm of rainfall.

Rainfall in Shillong was mere 47.1 mm.  Shella received 164 mm rainfall and Williamnagar received 108 mm rainfall.  Khliehriat received 95.4 mm rainfall, Mawphlang received 87.4 mm rainfall and Nongstoin received 85 mm rainfall.
