16 cases of violence registered during Meghalaya polls; 69 arrested so far

Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) Dr LR Bishnoi informed that a total of 16 poll related violence were registered in the state, where as many as 69 persons were arrested so far.

“Total 16 cases of violence were registered during the election, while 13 cases were related to the pre-poll violence and  3 cases were registered post- polls that is after counting,”the DGP said.

He further informed, “We have arrested a total 69 people during the election, while 56 were arrested in pre-poll violence, 13 were arrested post poll.”

The Police Chief also said the seizures during the recently held Assembly elections in the state were eight times higher than the previous years.

Terming the big catch of police during elections as the achievement in the last 50 years, Dr LR Bishnoi said, “If I remember correctly the total seizure was in the range of  atleast 76- 77 crores and this was 8 times higher than the earlier seizures. Police seized nearly Rs 3.06 cr cash, Rs 1.95 cr worth liquor , Rs 12 cr worth drugs, Rs 30 lakh gold and Rs 32 lakh freebies. “
