263 active cases remain in East Khasi Hills district, 273 in Ri Bhoi.

 With a “Sharp increase” in Meghalaya’s Covid 19 recovery rate, the number of active cases in the state remains less than one thousand. However, only 263 active cases remain in the East Khasi Hills district. 

 Ninety-one more persons have recovered from COVID-19 taking the total recoveries to 8,904 on Friday even as 86 new cases were detected.   

 Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said 70 people who have recovered from the viral infection are from East Khasi Hills, 8 West Garo Hills, 7 West Jaintia Hills, 4 East Jaintia Hills, 1 East Garo Hills, and 1 Ri Bhoi.


Of the 86 positive cases, he said 25 are from East Garo Hills district, 21 East Khasi Hills district, 13 Ri Bhoi district, 10 West Garo Hills district, 6 East Jaintia Hills district, 5 West Jaintia Hills district, 4 South West Garo Hills district, and 2 South Garo Hills district.


Dr. War said seven police personnel including 6 from Ri Bhoi and 1 from East Garo Hills were also among the new cases detected on Friday.


The state has so far a total of 9,893 COVID-19 out of which 984 are active cases, 8,904 recovered, and 91 deaths.


Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 263 positive cases that include 22 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 241 civilians, Ri Bhoi 273, West Garo Hills 146, West Jaintia Hills 103, East Garo Hills 89, East Jaintia Hills 49, North Garo Hills 15, West Khasi Hills 14, South West Garo Hills 17, South Garo Hills 13, and South West Khasi Hills 2.

 “Till date, swab samples of 2,08,730 persons have been tested of which 1,98,751 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

 There are 55,710 entrants from outside the state.
