Police have identified 32 suspected trouble-mongers, for peaceful conduct of the Election to the Sohiong Assembly constituency. Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor on Wednesday said these 32 probable ‘trouble-mongers’ bound over under Section 107.
After reviewing the poll preparation for the Sohiong, the Assembly constituency that goes to the polls on May 10, Kharkongor said, “Police have done this assessment and they have identified these known trouble mongers so they are bound under section 107 and they have to appear before the police every day to intimate about their whereabouts about their activities.”
The Chief Electoral Officer further informed that five companies of CAPF have been deployed in the poll bound constituency.
“The Sohiong election is in its final stretch now and I just had a review meeting with the returning officer and the District election machinery and we have reviewed all the points thoroughly . All the preparations are on track in terms of the arrangements; the five CAPF companies are already here and in this last stretch there will be more intense patrolling and area domination,” the Election official said.
He also informed that three nakas have been set up in as many strategic locations of the constituency with flying squads stationed at the point of entry to Sohiong. Kharkongor also said all the women flying squad members have been stationed near Mawmaram.
“In terms of seizures so far 346 litres of country made liquors have been seized. Altogether 60 armed licences have been deposited,” he added.
Stating that the District Election Machinery is poll ready, he said, “We are fully ready to ensure that polling goes smoothly. The whole Sohiong constituency has been divided into six sectors and two zones. In terms of vulnerable polling stations basically there are six vulnerable polling stations and twelve hamlets within these six vulnerable polling stations.”
