Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday informed that five more test positive for Covid 19 in Meghalaya, thereby, taking the tally of active cases in the state to 15. The Minister also informed that 2 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.
The West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya has reported 11 active cases, as Lyngdoh said, “There was abit upsurge in west Garo Hills.. but again the positivity of COVID 19 in Meghalaya is still very much under control. We do not want to cause an unnecessary alarm because it will create very big ripples across the state. “
Lyngdoh also urged the visitors from high positivity states to go for self quarantine.
“As a government, we are requesting citizens to ensure that they adhere to Covid practices. Anyone coming from cities like Delhi, Karnataka, some in Maharashtra and some of these states where high positivity rates are there, we are requesting them to self-quarantine,” she said.
Speaking to reporters, the health Minister said, “We do not want to create an unnecessarily alarm in the state because as of today our positivity rate is very low. So, I would suggest as a state, citizens themselves should police themselves, so that we don’t cause inconvenience to the entire public at large.”
Talking about the alertness of public, she asserted, “We have seen that has worked in the last phase of Covid. We saw that it was the participation of the public that has actually helped the state of Meghalaya contain the cases from going upsurge. So if we do that it would be a much better approach.”
Recently an interaction was also held with the union health minister to discuss the Covid situation and requesting the central government to assist the state with vaccines, adding that “we have not got a response yet particularly for that”.
Asking citizens to revert back to COVID practices, the Health Minister said the COVID situation in the state is still not serious.
“If you do know that you have COVID like symptoms and refrain from coming out, wear a mask in your home,” he added.
She further said the Government will activate if there is an alarming COVID situation but to alert the system, mock drills are being organised in the state.
