As many as 64 vendors have suffered big loss due to the massive fire that broke out at Laitumkhrah market on Friday morning
East Shillong legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh informed that the damage caused by the fire was up to Rs 1.90 crore.
Talking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “As many as 64 vendors have suffered a big loss due to the fire incident. We are finding space for them at the earliest.”
When asked, the legislator said the damage caused by the fire was up to Rs 1.90 crore.
“Of course this is what the vendors are saying but we are yet to find out from the DC’s office on the actual assessment of the damage,” she added.
The East Shillong legislator also said that the actual cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
She said, “Preliminary we heard that there was a cylinder burst. How the spark actually happened is something which the fire department is now trying to establish.”
Lyngdoh said she has sought the intervention of the chief minister Conrad K Sangma to rebuild the particular location at the earliest.
“The chief minister has given us the assurance that whatever can be done would be done at the earliest,” she said.
She informed that they will be having a second round of meeting with the deputy commissioner on Monday.
“We have to address this issue at the earliest because the wage loss of these vendors would be very difficult for them as their family survival depends on this,” she said.
