Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynong on Thursday said that 78 out of 92 casual employees engaged under the District Medical & Health Officer in Ri Bhoi may be eligible for conferment of the status of regular casual workers (RCW).
Replying to a call attention notice moved by Congress MLA Mayralborn Syiem in the Assembly, Tynsong said the District Medical & Health Officer is examining their eligibility and the workers will accordingly be conferred with the status of RCW.
“The department will also examine conferment of RCW status on other casual workers in other district offices,” he informed.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya Regular Casual Workers Scheme, 1996, provides the basis for conferment of the status of a RCW upon a casual worker who has immediatelly before the date of coming into force of this scheme, been working as such for a continuous period of not less than ten years.
The conferment of RCW status will be from such date not earlier than the date when this scheme came into force.
