Following the meeting with the state Government, the Harijan Panchayat Committee said that the discussion with the state Government was always on to relocate all the residents of Sweeper’s colony from Them Iew Mawlong and not just the employees.
Talking to mediapersons, Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) Secretary Gurjit Singh said the discussion was for the relocation of 342 families and it doesn’t matter if they are employees or not since they are residing at Them Iew Mawlong since last 200 years.
“The discussion was always on those 342 families and it doesn’t matter if they are state Government employees or their forefathers working with the Meghalaya Government, the relocation proposal is not merely for the employees. We are residing here for the last 200 years and because of the misunderstanding that has been created with the local people therefore we want an amicable solution.”
He further said, “It’s not for who is working in Government sector and who is not, the discussion we had with the state Government and the claim that we made in the High Court on the basis of this we are demanding the relocation of 342 families.”
Sardar Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, General Secretary, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, New Delhi was also present in the meeting.
Talking to mediapersons, Sardar Kahlon said that the issue is not whether they are employee or not, since they are residing there for centuries whether they or their forefathers the actual number that was decided is 342 households.
Asked about the alleged illegal sellers in Harijan colony, he said, “Those were just an allegation and but that is not the truth. It was already surveyed in 2007, whereby the HPC and the state Government agreed on the number of families residing there.”
Calling the meeting with the state Government fruitful, the General Secretary, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, New Delhi said, “We have fixed another meeting on 7th June where I think we will reach some conclusion.”
