Incessant rainfall triggers landslide, flash flood in South Garo Hills

Incessant rainfall for the past few days has affected the South Garo Hills District of Meghalaya. According to the state Disaster management, the water level of rivers like Simsang and Rongdik has increased which has affected the nearby villages.

 

A sources from the state disaster department said, “Darang Boldak road washed away due to flash flood and Rongdik River started increasing water level”

 

The incessant rainfall has also triggered landslide in the district, “Around 5 houses were partially damaged due to landslide in Era Aning Village,” the sources said.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills Shivansh Awasthi informed that the movement of vehicles along NH 62 affected temporarily due to overflowing streams, debris of landslides.While, some locations have already been cleared by PWD roads.

“Link road to kharukol and adjacent villages submerged due to increase in water level of Simsang,” Awasthi said.
