In a memorandum submitted to the deputy chief minister incharge PWD Prestone Tynsong, chairman of the forum Kitboklang Nongrem said, “People of South West Khasi Hills District met on June 15 at Mawkyrwat and resolved to bring to the notice of the government about the deteriorating condition and narrowness of Weiloi-Mawkyrwat –Khadphra-Ranikor road. It has been left unattended for a very long time. On this matter, the following facts are considered necessary to be brought to your attention.”
He said the Weiloi-Mawkyrwat-Ranikor road is the worst road in the state when compare to all roads connecting the district headquarter and sub divisional headquarter with the state capital. This road is one of the oldest roads in the stte which still narrow. The road is becoming busy day after day as it connects the state capital and the district headquarter and further down to the international border.
“…the people representative, people associations, stakeholders, on several occasions have made requests to the government for widening and strengthening of the said road for which the current chief minister and other people in authority has assured to do the needful but it is yet to be done,” Nongrem said.
The chairman also stated that Weiloi-18 Ranikor via Mawsynram road is another vital road which plays a very important role in the economic activities of the people. This road requires widening and strengthening for better commuting.
In the meeting we had also resolved to accept the standard intermediate lane if the two lane road still takes a long time to materialise, he stated.
