Mizoram sees huge influx of refugees from Bangladesh; BSF,BGB to make effort to stop influx

With Mizoram seeing a regular influx of refugees from Bangladesh’s Chittagong hill tracts, the Inspectors General BSF – Region Commanders BGB level Border Co-ordination Conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) decided to make a joint effort to try and stop the influx.

 

Informing this, Patel Piyush Purusottam Das, IPS, IG BSF, Tripura Frontier said, the issue of influx of refugees was discussed during the conference.

 

“We have discussed it. We are trying our joint effort to (stop) influx of refugees,” Das said.

Although, hundreds of refugees from the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh entered Mizoram in the past few months, the Border Security Force (BSF), when asked, were shying away from providing a satisfactory reply to this query.

The conference emphasised on zero tolerance towards the smuggling of drug firearms, explosive and human trafficking.

In regard to Human Trafficking, the BSF official said in case of human trafficking and illegal Crossing, a lot of touts are apprehended and booked under the provision of the various sections of law which has led to decrease in the illegal crossing attempt.

“We have we have already appended a lot of tout in India and their book under the Provisions, various sections of existing laws and they are still in custody. Actually, That is why there is a decrease in the illegal crossing also, and at the same time, we have also shared the information about the touts existing in Bangladesh and Is Excellency and the team has already assured that they will also take action against those touts and I think we’ll bring it down to zero,”  Patel Piyush Purusottam Das said.

 

Meanwhile, Md Shazedur Rahman, BGBM, Additional Director General, Region Commander, Chattogram said, as per the data available, with the improvement of the social economic condition in Bangladesh, the number of people migrating to other countries have come down.

“In Bangladesh our social economic condition is now increasing. So going to other countries is decreasing as per our data source,” Rahman said.
