UDP claims HSPDP ready to pull out of RDA; HSPDP says ‘No such intention’

SHILLONG, JULY 4: Contradicting views are coming from the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) camp in Meghalaya, with the United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh informing Media that the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has decided to serve tie with the regional alliance. However, HSPDP President KP Pangniang denied the report stating that the RDA will hold a meeting soon to discuss all such issues.

The RDA Chairperson and UDP President Metbah Lyngdoh, however, refrain from making any statement amidst this controversy. Although there is no written communication, everything is stated to be verbal.

The HSPDP President KP Pangniang said, “That is the statement of Bah Paul and we have no information about it.”

Asked, the HSPDP President said that any such decision can be taken only in the HSPDP meeting and then further in the RDA meeting.

“The HSPDP has never had intention of pulling out of the RDA because it is the tradition that whenever we have such a decision we need to sit and discuss in the party and we have to discuss in the RDA also,” Pangniang said.

“The RDA will be sitting soon in the coming week, perhaps 18-19 July,” he added.

Earlier, the United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh on Thursday said, “Yes, they (HSPDP) have expressed their unwillingness to continue with the RDA.”

“That was an expression made by the HSPDP but we need to meet formally and settle all these issues,” he added.

Asked, the UDP leader said, “There are multiple factors for the failure of the RDA candidate, which is why as you can see even the HSPDP has decided to pull out of the RDA.”

“So these are the factors that are important points to take into account. Now a lot of factors are at work and one of them was also the fact that we could not calvinized our entire cadre in a manner that we should have done and the decision of the RDA, the name of the candidate was declared at the eleventh hour, a year after the VPP candidate has gone touring around,” he said.
