One of deceased persons identified in Umpleng suspected murder case

East Jaintia Hills police informed that the one of deceased persons amongst the four found dead behind Umpleng market on Saturday is identified.

 

The victim late Ravi Rai is a resident of Nepal.

 

“So far one of the deceased persons has been identified as Late. Ravi Rai (23 years) S/O Smt. Devi Rai, R/O Pastha Elam, Nepal,” Police informed.

 

At around 7:30 am in the morning, mutilated bodies of four unknown persons were found lying with their hands tied with rope from behind Umpleng market with multiple cut injuries on their bodies likely caused by sharp objects and appeared to have been murdered.

 

In this connection a criminal case has been taken up and investigation is ongoing.

 

“In view of the seriousness of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to assist the I/O of thecase for an effective investigation,” East Jaintia Hills Police said in a statement.

 

Stating that CSU, Mobile forensic Crime scene unit, and Magistrate were requisitioned, Police said, “On the arrival of the CSU, Mobile forensic Crime scene unit, independent witnesses, and magistrate, an inquest was conducted, collection of evidence and other formalities were observed at the spot.”

 

Later, after observing all the formalities at the PO, the dead bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Khliehriat for post mortem
