Beware! Fake email id in DGP’s name created to deceive people and extort money

The Scammers have tried to impersonate Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP), Idashisha Nongrang and create a fake email account to deceive people and extort money.

The cyber wing of Meghalaya police have alerted general public such mail sent in the name of the DGP.

DO NOT FALL VICTIM TO SUCH SCAMS! We urge you to remain vigilant and skeptical of such messages. Kindly verify the authenticity of such communications at your nearest local police station or by dialing 112,” police said.

The fake email  states, “We inform you that you have a SUMMON from the federal police office emanating from MEGPOLICE, for visiting a pornographic websites character, which hides in the reality of cybergraphy and child geography showing naked videos and photos of young children, which is strictly prohibited by Indian law, you have committed an offense, you will probably be summoned to appear before the investigating judge at the high court. You must respond to us in order to understand this situation.”

www.megpolice.gov.in and also carries Meghalaya police logo.

Cyber cell Meghalaya has requested people through Meghalaya News 24 that any such email should be reported.

Request for fact checking related to cyber crime and suspicious websites, applications, investment schemes, online transactions, social media rumors etc. may be submitted this email ID and we will verify the details and tell if it is genuine or fake,” Police said.
