Meghalaya Govt enhances salary of non-teaching SSA staff by 25 percent

SHILLONG, JULY 31: The state government has announced its decision to enhance the salary of all the 1037 non-teaching staff of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) by 25 percent.

 

A letter issued by the Special Officer incharge Education department  to the State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha (SEMAM) & Director of School Education & Literacy, Meghalaya on July 26.

 

The letter said, “In inviting a reference to the subject cited above, I am directed to convey government’s approval for 25% enhancement of salary of the office staff of Samagra Shiksha (Non-Academic) at the state, district and block MIS, DEO and accountant with effect from the financial year 2024-2025 (i.e. April 1st, 2024). This approval is issued in pursuance of Finance (EA) Department’s letter dated July 18, 2024. This has the approval of the “Competent Authority”.”

 

Meanwhile on Tuesday, Vijay Kumar Mantri, Commisioner & Secretary Education met the non-teaching staff of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) at Malki ground where they have organised indefinite sit-in-demonstration.

After his meeting with the non-teaching staff of SSA, Mantri conveyed their demand to the Chief Minister.

“Tomorrow the Chief Minister has called an urgent internal meeting with officers to discuss and decide on their demands. The CM also spoke to them over phone and informed them that the government would consider their demands positively,” the officer said.

It may be mentioned that there is a total of 1037 non-teaching staff under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), while 35 are at state level, 295 in the district  and 707 block  level.

Further,  going by the 25 percent enhancement, the state government would require an additional amount of Rs. 3.19 crore to implement its decision.

The existing budget of the Meghalaya Education department so far was Rs 12.78 crore, however, with this enhancement there is a rise of Rs 3.19 crore as the  financial implication will be now Rs 15.98 crore.
