The East Jaintia Hills Police arrested a drug peddler, Abul Kashim Md Abbas, a resident of Patharkhandi, Dist Karimnganj, Assam, and seized illegal contrabands on Wednesday. He was travelling in a night super bus and was arrested from Umtyra .
The arrest occurred at a Naka checkpoint led by Bidhan Bhattacharjee, MPS DySP (Crime) Khliehriat, at Umtyra. Upon searching the bus, police found Abbas with two bags, one containing 25 multi-color soap boxes with yellowish powder, which tested positive for heroin, weighing approximately 290 grams.
“He was travelling in a passenger bus night super, accordingly a Naka was set up lead by Bidhan Bhattacharjee, MPS DySP (Crime) Khliehriat at Umtyra and the vehicle was stopped at Umtyra, on checking the said person was found in the vehicle with 2nos of bag and in one bag illegal contrabands were found,” Police said.
“Proper search under NDPS Act was done in presence of independent witness and 25 multi colour soap boxes were found with yellowish powder in them. Preliminary test was done in front of the accused and independent witness and result gave positive of Heroin. Measurement was done and the weight came to 290gms approximately,” police said.
Along with the heroin, an Oppo mobile phone was seized. All formalities were completed on the spot, and Abbas was taken to Khliehriat PS for further investigation. A case has been registered at Khliehriat PS.
