Tynsong to Convene Meeting on Harijan Panchayat Committee’s Request for extension of time

Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home (Police), Prestone Tynsong, informed on Tuesday that he will convene a meeting with the concerned departments this week to examine the letter sent by the Harijan Panchayat Committee and make a decision.

Speaking to the media, Tynsong stated, “I have seen the letter today, as shown by our Deputy CM in charge of Urban Affairs. I think we will sit down this week itself among ourselves, and then we will take a call and decide.”

When asked about the August 10 decision, where it was agreed that the committee would convey their message to the state government without further discussions, Tynsong responded, “We have received a request from their side for one more meeting. I will not comment on that right now because I need to call a departmental meeting first, and then we will sit down and decide.”

The Harijan Panchayat Committee had formally communicated to the Meghalaya State Government that the period allocated for consulting with the highest Sikh community authorities was insufficient.

They have requested an extension until September last week from the Meghalaya government to provide their final decision on the proposed relocation from Them Iew Mawlong to Bishop Cotton Road in Shillong.

Tynsong, who also chairs the High-Level Committee tasked with deciding on the relocation of 342 families from Them Iew Mawlong, confirmed that he saw the letter this morning.

In a prior press statement, Gurjit Singh, Secretary of the Harijan Panchayat Committee, clarified that the Deputy Chief Minister recently requested the Committee to provide a final decision within 15 days. However, Singh stressed that this timeframe was inadequate for consulting key leaders and organizations within the Sikh community.
