Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, who also represents the Rongara Siju Assembly constituency, has introduced an incentive program awarding ₹5,000 per letter mark achieved by each student in the SSLC and HSSLC examinations conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) for his constituency. Informing that this initiative has nothing to do with the state Government and it is his personal initiative, Sangma mentioned that a total of 90 students from his constituency benefited from this scheme this year.

Furthermore, the Minister has committed to ensuring that any student from his constituency who secures a position in the SSLC or HSSLC examination will receive free admission to any educational institution of their choice across the country. This initiative aims to improve the examination results in the region, particularly in the South Garo Hills district, which recorded a pass percentage of 35.26% in the SSLC examination—out of 2,714 students who appeared, only 957 passed. The pass rate in the HSSLC examination in the district was similarly low.
