Shillong MP urges centre to optimise potential and efficiency of Dawki Land Port

SHILLONG, SEP 19: VPP MP from Shillong Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon has urge the need for the Centre to optimise the potential and efficiency of the Dawki Land Port.
In a letter to the Chairman, Land Port Authority of India, Aditya Mishra, Dr Syngkon said, “On the 14th September, 2024 I personally paid visit to this port to see the prospects and potentiality of this port and on this visit, I observed a number of pertinent issues that must be addressed at the earliest so as to optimise the potential and efficiency of the port and its effective functioning.”
In regards to the Infrastructure, the Shillong MP suggested that all out efforts must be made to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the entire campus.
He said that network and communication is extremely poor and requires immediate attention adding widening of the road leading to the land port that is presently under construction must be speed up.
“Warehousing including cold storage facilities must be constructed. Testing facilities to ensure quality products (perishable and non-perishable items) must also be made available,” he said. He said that opening of a bank in the port is a must for foreign exchange and other banking related activities besides an ATM and the need to increase the parking space
As far as human resource is concerned, Dr Syngkon said that the port must be managed by competent people and not by some unqualified personnel.
“Employment on a priority basis to locals for managerial as well as non- managerial positions must be considered,” he added.
