Donning jersey No. 11, Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, was spotted playing football with local youth as part of the Captain Williamson A Sangma Memorial Trophy at the Baghmara Govt. HS School Playground.
In a gray jersey, the minister showcased his football skills, sprinting across the field, tackling opponents, and making crucial clearances.
Representing Rongara/Siju XI (R/S XI), Sangma netted two goals, contributing to his team’s 6-2 victory over Wegra FC, led by Apriline Marak, Chairman of the Baghmara Municipal Board.
The tournament features 32 teams, with the final scheduled for September 25, where Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar will serve as Chief Guest.
This event aligns with the state’s Mission Football 2 initiative, aimed at developing football infrastructure and culture.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma recently emphasized the government’s goal of transforming Meghalaya into a football hub, starting at the constituency level. With cabinet ministers like Rakkam Sangma actively engaging in the sport, the initiative is gaining significant momentum.
