DHS disappointed over Jongsha CHC closure

The DHS Dr FV Kharshiing today expressed disappointment over the decision of the people to close the Jongksha Community Health Centre on 21 September as this affects the people who need many health services.

It may be noted that on 21 September the residents of Jongksha East khasi Hills closed the Community Health Centre as a mark of protest against the absence of doctors.

Speaking to media persons, Dr Kharshiing explained that the doctors have the right to take leave by saying “One doctor takes leave earlier and another doctor took leave on health reasons”.

Dr Kharshiing said that the two doctors had informed the district authorities before taking leave and the district authorities through the DMHO office East khasi Hills had arranged for a doctor from East Jaintia Hills who was stationed in Pynursla.

“The doctor, who was supposed to come to Jongksha CHC 20 September, came from Pynursla and for unavoidable reasons at home, she had to come to CHC on 21 November and this doctor also informed the DMHO office. However, it is sad that the closure of the CHC has prevented her from coming to this health centre” said Dr Kharshiing.

Dr Kharshiing said that although the two doctors are not available, the DMHO has appointed one Ayush Doctor and there is also a tele-consultation to assist the doctor and health workers at the CHC.

She said that the DMHO office on 20 September had sent a doctor from Mawiong to assist Doctor Ayush at the CHC but it is sad that the doctor was not allowed to even enter the health centre.

Condemning the closure of the CHC, the DHS said, “Medicines especially injections, need to be kept in deep freezers and need to be examined from time to time, morning and night. This closure of the CHC or any other health centres is a great loss to the residents’ especially to those who need medical care”.
