West Garo Hills, October 7, 2024 — Sadhiarani M Sangma, the lone woman MDC in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), has extended much-needed support to the flood-affected families in Mellim under the 10 Dengnakpara GDC Constituency. During her visit, she personally distributed rations to the affected families, offering a glimmer of hope to those struggling amidst disaster.
The recent floods and landslides that struck the Garo Hills region have caused widespread devastation, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and substantial damage to property and crops. The overflow of the Ringde and Dilni rivers has inundated over 50 homes, with vast stretches of agricultural land being destroyed. Many villages remain cut off as roads have been washed away, leaving residents isolated and in urgent need of basic supplies.
As relief efforts continue, MDC Sadhiarani M Sangma’s outreach has provided reassurance and comfort to the people of Mellim, who are beginning the long process of recovery from this catastrophe. Her presence has been instrumental in bringing attention to the plight of the affected communities.
