Gambegre Constituency to have 51 Polling Stations, Including 31 Critical Stations

 

The bye-elections in Gambegre are set for November 13, with counting taking place on November 23. Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BDR Tiwari announced that “31 critical polling stations are there in Gambegre, but there are no vulnerable polling stations.”

“There are a total of 51 polling stations in the Gambegre Legislative Constituency, including 47 regular polling stations and two polling stations with two booths each,” Tiwari added. He noted that the Model Code of Conduct will apply only in the West Garo Hills district.

The notification for the Gambegre bye-election will be issued on October 18 while the last date of filing of nominations will be on October 25, scrutiny of nomination papers on October 28, the CEO said.

The last date of withdrawal of nominations will be on October 30 and the bye-election will be held on November 13 and that the results will be declared on November 23.

The constituency has a total of 32, 254 voters including 16,331 males and 15,923 females.

The bye-election was prompted by the resignation of sitting Congress legislator Saleng A. Sangma, who was elected as Tura MP earlier this year.

Dr. Tiwari also reported, “There are about 100 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) registered, along with 64 senior citizens and 4 service voters. We have 110 Control Units (CUs), 110 Data Units (DUs), and 110 VVPATs.”

In the electoral race, the National People’s Party (NPP) is fielding Mehtab Chandee A. Sangma, the wife of the Chief Minister, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has nominated Sadhiarani M. Sangma, the sitting MDC and wife of former Rangsakona legislator Zenith M. Sangma.

The Congress party is expected to nominate Jingjang M. Marak, a close aide to Tura MP Saleng Sangma, who is reportedly the only applicant for the ticket

In the electoral contest, the National People’s Party (NPP) has nominated Mehtab Chandee A. Sangma, the Chief Minister’s wife, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has selected Sadhiarani M. Sangma, the sitting MDC and spouse of former Rangsakona legislator Zenith M. Sangma. The Congress party is anticipated to nominate Jingjang M. Marak, a close aide to Tura MP Saleng Sangma, who is reportedly the sole applicant for the ticket.
