SHILLONG, OCT 25: Deputy CM in-charge transport minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday said the state government has not abandoned the proposed railway projects in the state.
Dhar emphasized the importance of inclusive decision-making, stating that the government will engage stakeholders before finalizing any plans. He also acknowledged the potential of a luxury rail network, noting that further discussions with the tourism department are necessary to explore the proposal’s viability.
Speaking to reporters, Dhar said, “(We have) not abandoned it. We are yet to take a call (because) first of all, we will try to take everybody on board. When everybody is on board then only we will take a call as a government.”
Asked about the idea of having a luxury rail network, Dhar said the proposal (of the MTDC) is good, it is not bad.
“(However), these things fall under the tourism department. Maybe I will have to get the inputs from the tourism department on what is the talk as of now as it is not my department, it is the tourism sector,” he added.
