Shillong, Oct 25: The Khasi Student Union (KSU) Education Cell led by its assistant education secretary met with the deputy commissioner (DC) with regard to the delay in issuing income certificates to the students who have applied for Scholarship.
The KSU claimed that income certificates usually take 1-2 days but even after 2 months the students have been received.
In the past, the scholarship application process required only affidavit income from lawyers and it was easy to apply for scholarships.
The district administration has issued an order that the income certificate for scholarship must be submitted to the DC and signed by the Magistrate but the delay in generating the income certificate makes the students lose their scholarship.
After several complaints the union has raised this issue with the DC and has demanded to find ways and means to avoid this by suggesting that the number of employees should be increased for the convenience of the students.
On the other hand, the DC said that he will direct the department to reduce the application requirements so that it is easier to get income certificates for the purpose of applying for scholarships.
The union also said that as seen in the working methods of other states, according to the government cadre service, there are three categories namely working cadre, training cadre and leave cadre.
The union suggests that such a system should be within the district and within the state.
The union will continue to monitor this issue these days and also to ensure that the students will not have any problems in applying for scholarships.
