The state government has announced a 3% increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for its employees, raising it from 43% to 46%, effective from July 1, 2024. This increase is set to benefit more than 90,000 state government employees and pensioners, according to an official statement released on Monday.
“The Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to decide that the Dearness Allowance/Dearness Relief payable to all categories of State Government employees/pensioners and family pension holders shall be enhanced from the existing rate of 43% to 46% with effect from 1.7.2024,” reads the official order.
This adjustment will also apply to members of the work-charged establishment and casual workers—excluding bungalow peons—holding posts in pay levels equivalent to regular establishment roles.
However, the order specifies that DA payments will be suspended for pensioners and family pensioners who are employed or re-employed under the state or central government or who are permanently absorbed in entities such as government companies, corporations, undertakings, or autonomous bodies. It shall, however, be revived after the spell of such employment or re-employment, the notification states.
For payments involving DA or Dearness Relief, amounts with fractions of 50 paise or more will be rounded up to the next rupee, while fractions below 50 paise will be ignored. All payments will be charged to the respective heads of accounts from which employees draw their salaries or pensioners receive their pensions.
