Shillong, Nov 6: Refuting NPP leader Rakkam Sangma’s claims of BJP support for Congress during the recent MP elections in Garo Hills, BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek firmly dismissed any prospect of collaboration between the two parties.
“Congress and BJP can never work together. How can you say that? Can our Prime Minister work with Rahul Gandhi?” Hek said, underscoring the fundamental divide between the two parties.
Hek clarified that the BJP has no association with the Congress in the Garo Hills region, particularly in the recent MP elections. “Congress has its own identity, its own supporters, and its own candidate, and they should fight elections on their own. Similarly, BJP also has its own candidate, its own supporters, and we will fight elections on our own,” he stated.
Expressing confidence in the party’s candidate for the Gambegre bye-election, Hek asserted that sitting Tura MDC Bernard N. Marak would secure the seat. “The only issue of the BJP is development. If they [the people] vote for BJP, lots of development will come to the constituency…there are so many schemes launched by the Prime Minister,” he emphasized.
When asked about the BJP’s stance in the previous parliamentary elections, Hek acknowledged that the BJP had supported the NPP then, but clarified that this support would not extend to the upcoming Gambegre bye-election. “We have nothing to say against any political party,” he said in response to allegations that the BJP may have affected NPP’s chances in the MP election.
