SHILLONG, NOV 29: UDP legislator from Nongpoh Mayralborn Syiem on Friday informed that Rs 49,53,75,500 has been sanctioned for the first phase of repairing the 20 km Nongpoh-Umden road.
There are more than 200 villages along the stretch of this road.
Speaking to media persons, Syiem said that the state government has accord administrative approval and sanction for the road project which has been pending for the last 2-3 years.
Syiem said that the Nongpoh-Umden-Sonapur road connect about 150-200 villages and for the last 2-3 years the public and commuters had encountered really bad conditions while travelling through this road.
“I am happy to inform you that with regard to the first part of the project which is from Nongpoh to Umden which is around 20 km, the state government has accord administrative approval and sanction an amount of Rs 49,53,7500” said Syiem.
Syiem said that with regard to the second phase of the project which is Umden- Sonapur which is of 38.6 km, the sanction has been agreed since 10 October 2024 through PMGSY III of Rs 47.20 crores.
He informed that the tender for the Umden-Sonapur road has been called and most probably by the first week of December 2024, the work order will be awarded to the firm or contractors who have fulfilled all the criteria.
Syiem said that the project which is almost Rs 100 crores was supposed to be taken up in 2023 but due to the MP election and due to many issues especially due financial constraints, the project did not see the light of day.
“So in this regard I would like to express my gratitude to the minister in-charge PWD Prestone Tynsong, to the chief minister and to the government as a whole who have listen to the request of the public and to my request as MLA to sanction funds for this road project at the earliest” he added.
