Education Ministry Gives NEHU Inquiry Panel 15-Day Extension to Submit Report; Committee Requests Academic Progress Data

The Ministry of Education has granted a 15-day extension to the two-member inquiry committee, comprising former UGC Chairman DP Singh and former Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Dilip Chandra Nath, to finalize its report on allegations of mismanagement and administrative lapses at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).

In a letter addressed to Prof. D. P. Singh, Chairman of the Inquiry Committee, NEHU & Former Chairman of UGC, D.K. Himanshu, Under Secretary to the Government of India said, “In reference of this Ministry’s order dated 14.11.2024 and Chairman of the Inquiry Committee’s letter dated 28.11.2024, it is stated that the Competent Authority has granted the extension of 15 days to conclude the findings and finalize the report.”

In the meantime, the committee on Friday has  requested NEHU to provide detailed data on the institution’s academic growth and progress, particularly focusing on research and analysis metrics.
