Shillong, Jan 8: The construction of the four-lane Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge over the Brahmaputra River, connecting Assam and Meghalaya, is progressing as planned, according to Meghalaya cabinet minister and Phulbari legislator Abu Taher Mondal.
“There has been a slight delay on the Meghalaya side, and we are lagging behind the Assam side. On their side, almost 34-35 pillars have been completed. That is the current status,” Mondal informed reporters on Wednesday.
The minister, who recently visited the construction site on the Meghalaya side, said officials have assured him that the project remains on schedule. “Officials told me that they are on time as far as the completion of the work is concerned, provided there are no untoward incidents,” he stated.
Mondal underscored the importance of the bridge, describing it as a transformative project for the Northeast. “Our Chief Minister has always supported this project from the start. Once completed, this bridge will be a major game changer for the region. It will significantly reduce the distance for traffic heading toward Guwahati and encourage economic and developmental activities. Moreover, it will serve as the western gateway for our state to the mainland,” he said.
