SHILLONG, JAN 8: Maintaining that the two constituents of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA)—United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP)—remain united, HSPDP President K.P. Pangniang on Wednesday said the two parties have a mutual understanding in certain areas as part of the alliance but will come together fully post-elections.
With just a month to go for the District Council polls in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), the HSPDP has released its second list of candidates.
“RDA is still there but it comes in the form of post polls, not pre-poll. But we are having some mutual understanding in some constituencies , mutually between the two parties UDP and HSPDP. There are some constituencies that UDP did not field candidates and in some constituencies that HSPDP did not field candidates on the ground of mutual understanding since we are part and parcel of RDA,” the HSPDP President said.
Pangniang announced the names of three candidates for the KHADC elections: Starfing Jove Langpen Pdahkasiej for the 11-Mawsynram Constituency, Phinda Warjri for the 24-Parïong Constituency, and Srally Rashir for the 29-Mawshynrut Constituency.
Speaking to the media, Pangniang confirmed that this is the second list and assured that the final list of candidates will be announced soon. He emphasized the party’s commitment to fielding capable candidates to uphold and represent the people’s interests in the District Councils.
