Speculation Rises Over Charles Pyngrope’s Possible Return to Congress

As speculation grows around Meghalaya TMC leader Charles Pyngrope’s potential return to the Congress ahead of the Assembly elections, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Vincent H. Pala expressed confidence and optimism. He noted that several of Pyngrope’s supporters have already joined the Congress and reiterated the party’s readiness to welcome him if he decides to rejoin.

Pala emphasized that the choice ultimately rests with Pyngrope but acknowledged that his supporters might put forward a candidate just as capable—or even stronger—should he choose not to return. “If Charles Pyngrope doesn’t join us, then his own supporters will give a candidate, maybe equally as good or even better. In Nongthymmai, whether he joins or not is his choice, but we would love to have him on our team because Congress welcomes everyone,” Pala remarked.

Highlighting Pyngrope’s leadership, Pala said, “Charles Pyngrope is an important leader. He was with Congress before, and equally significant are his supporters. If we gain their backing, whoever we field as a candidate will have a strong chance. While there hasn’t been any political communication with him, I do visit him personally.”

Reflecting on Congress’s resurgence, Pala noted that leaders and supporters from constituencies like Umroi, Sohiong, and Nongthymmai have returned to the party. He added, “In Garo Hills, too, ex-ministers and ex-MLAs have rejoined the Congress. This wave of returning members shows growing trust in the party.”

Pala further stressed that the departure of certain leaders had inadvertently created opportunities for growth. “It’s not a setback; it’s a blessing. The absence of those who once manipulated the party has allowed us to grow better and faster. We now have the chance to bring in young, educated minds and individuals with strong values.”

Speaking about the party’s revival, Pala observed, “Though we faced challenges, it has become an opportunity to showcase our strength. Many individuals who left the party did so for personal benefits, not for public interest. Now, people are coming back to us, recognizing Congress’s dedication. The demand for Congress tickets and the enthusiasm of new members show that we are moving forward, taking everyone along with us.”
