Final Stages of Them Iew Mawlong Relocation: Govt

The relocation of 342 Harijan families from Them Iew Mawlong is in its final stages, with the government working towards a conclusive resolution, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar, confirmed on Tuesday. He emphasized that the process is being handled with caution to ensure a permanent solution that withstands legal scrutiny.

“We are not buying time. Since this issue has been pending for many years, we need to ensure it is resolved in the right manner. If the court steps in, it will become more complicated. Therefore, we are taking steps to resolve it once and for all,” Dhar stated.

He stressed that while the government is not rushing the process, it is prioritizing a lasting solution. “Even if it takes time, it must be resolved permanently. This is not about fear or protection—we simply cannot throw them out just like that,” he said, assuring that the issue remains a top priority.

Dhar further informed that the government is in the final stages of resolving the matter. On the proposal to acquire defence land for relocation, he said discussions with the defence ministry are ongoing. “Let us wait, as this is linked with the central government. We are in the process of discussion and finalization. Whether we acquire that land or provide an alternative, we will see,” he added.
