Reacting to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) election results, National People’s Party (NPP) legislator from Rongara-Siju and Cabinet Minister Rakkam A. Sangma stated that the outcome is a reflection of the people’s choice. He acknowledged that voters gravitated toward the ideologies and narratives presented during the campaign, shaping the region are evolving political landscape.
“It’s a choice of the people, it’s the people’s mandate,” Sangma stated.
“People listen to their speech, listen to their agenda, listen to their ideology. Maybe the people of the region love more the ideology that they have presented. I don’t want to comment on the ideology of somebody, but maybe their ideology was well presented to the people’s court. It’s the people’s choice,” he added.
In a sweeping political shift, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) secured a resounding victory, winning 17 seats and completely ousting the Congress, BJP, and KHNAM from the race. The United Democratic Party (UDP) managed five seats, while the NPP was reduced to just four.
