TMC Legislator Renews Demand for Dadenggre District

EXCLUSIVE

TMC legislator from Dadenggre, Rupa Marak, has reiterated the long-standing demand for upgrading Dadenggre into a full-fledged district, emphasizing its historical significance and administrative importance.

Despite being one of the oldest civil sub-divisions in Meghalaya, established alongside Resubelpara and Ampati in 1982, Dadenggre remains overlooked while the others have attained district status, despite its larger population and jurisdictional area.

Talking to Meghalaya News 24, Marak pointed out the disparity, stating, “In the instance of getting district also, see Mairang was created in 2021, but no civil subdivisions were upgraded in Garo Hills to a full-fledged district.”

He recalled past administrative practices, noting, “In the past, during the tenure of Dr Mukul Sangma holding the course of CM, whenever one district was created in Khasi Jaintia Hills region, he used to give one district in Garo Hills.”

The TMC MLA criticized the current administration, adding, “But in the time of Conrad Sangma, justification has not been done.”

Reiterating the need for Dadenggre’s elevation, he asserted, “There has been demand going on since long for the creation of Dadenggre District. It is the largest and the oldest division in the civil subdivision in the Garo Hills region now.”
