Information has Come Centre Agreed to Raise Start-Up Fund for SHGs : CM

SHILLONG, MAR 11: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the government has requested the Centre to enhance the start-up fund to self help groups (SHGs) under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM).
Sangma said, “We have written to the government of India and we expect the amount to go up.”
“Information has come that the government of India has agreed to enhance the amount and it will now be increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000.”
The chief minister has also assured to dovetail the DAY-NULM with many schemes of the state government to ensure more and more schemes are given through the SHGs.
He also informed that the government has been able to create thousands of Lakhpati Didi during the past 6-7 years in rural areas.
This is because the process of organizing the SHGs is easier in rural areas.
“However, we were not able to replicate this in urban areas as it is more difficult to bring people to work together,” Sangma said.
Earlier deputy chief minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar informed that since 2014, 510 SGHs have been formed and registered in the Urban areas of Meghalaya under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Liveihood Mission (DAY-NULM).
Of these, 41 SHGs are non functional.
An amount of Rs 10,000 is provided as start-up fund in the form of Revolving Fund per SHG under DAY-NULM, he added.
