The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the appointment of retired IAS officer and former Chief Secretary RV Suchiang as the state’s new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) for a term of three years. With this appointment, Suchiang becomes the first woman to hold the position, marking a significant milestone in the state’s administrative landscape.
Announcing the decision on Wednesday, Cabinet Minister and government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh stated, “Today, the Cabinet has approved the proposal that RV Suchiang, IAS retired, be appointed as the new state Chief Information Commissioner for a period of three years.”
The post had been vacant following the appointment of the former Chief Information Commissioner, H Nongpluh, as a member of the Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission. Nongpluh, a retired IPS officer, had completed his tenure as CIC on November 14, 2024.
