Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday acknowledged the shared responsibility of Assam and Meghalaya in addressing pollution in Byrnihat, an industrial hub straddling both states. Emphasizing the need for cooperation, he assured that Assam would work closely with Meghalaya to bring pollution levels under control.
“He (Meghalaya CM) has spoken to me, Byrnihat as you know belongs to both Assam and Meghalaya, obviously we have shared responsibility and I will work with the Government of Meghalaya to see that the pollution levels come down,” Sarma stated.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over rising pollution levels in Byrnihat, where environmental activists and local residents have raised alarms over air and water contamination. With Sarma’s commitment to collaboration, attention now turns to how both states will implement effective measures to address the issue
