Mawlai legislator and UDP candidate PT Sawkmie on Wednesday appealed to the people of the state to give the United Democratic Party (UDP) a chance to lead the next government.
Speaking to reporters, Sawkmie said that the people of the state are fed up with the National People’s Party (NPP) which has been leading the government for the last five years.
“People would now like to vote for change and we would request all the voters to give UDP a chance. People of the state have already experienced with the Congress during the tenure of Dr Mukul Sangma, who was CM for 8 years. We have only experienced national parties but our request to the people is to give chance to the regional parties,” he said.
He said none of the regional parties which are part of the MDA are happy with the performance of the MDA government.
“I could see important decisions of the government did not get the support from its own allies like UDP and others as they never take them into confidence. That is the drawback of the NPP government and the present chief minister as he failed to take his allies into confidence,” Sawkmie said.
Sawkmie said the anti-incumbency will not affect the MDA partners like UDP nd others because “the chief minister never take his colleagues into confidence”.
“UDP may be in the government but in their hearts they are not happy. If the CM had taken all into confidence I may say that anti-incumbency will affect everybody but elections are near, people are talking only about NPP and not UDP and people say it is time to give chance to UDP,” he said.
The Mawlai legislator said that if all regional parties unite, it will be a big boost and the regional force will become stronger in the state. However, due to different ideologies, the regional parties like the UDP, HSPDP, PDF, and VPP are fighting the elections on their own.
“I appeal to all regional parties to work together after the elections as whatever the case maybe we should not give a chance to NPP to lead the government,” he said.
