The Election Commission has adjourned the polling in the Sohiong Assembly Constituency (ST) in Meghalaya following the demise of United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate and former Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh.
Informing this, Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor on Monday said, “Report recommending Adjournment of polls has been received from the district election officer (DEO). Enclosing the returning officer’s report, the CEO has recommended adjournment of polls to the Election Commission of India (ECI).”
Now the polls will be conducted in 59 out of 60Assembly Constituencies.
Former home minister and UDP candidate HDR Lyngdoh passed away at a city hospital due to cardiac arrest on Monday.
Lyngdoh was a former five-time legislator of Sohiong constituency.
“Adjourned poll date in respect of Sohiong AC Will announced by ECI at a later date,” Kharkongor added.
