The Managing Director (MD) of MeECL Sanjay Goyal on Wednesday informed that the first unit of Ganol power project in Garo Hills is at synchronising stage to the grid.
Talking to reporters, Goyal said, “Ganol one unit is into synchronising to the grid stage and rest all we have given a target to complete within 30th of June and we will be producing the power from all the three units from Ganol and putting it to the grid by June end.”
He further informed that one unit of Ganol generates 7.5 Megawatt of electricity.
“Water is an issue in Garo Hills also and all three units should be working when water is available for production. That’s what our target is. It can produce a maximum electricity of 22.5 MW. It is designed keeping all these seasonality in mind, roughly around 60 million units in a year,” he added,
The long-awaited 22.5 MW Ganol Hydro Power Project near Tura in West Garo Hills was inaugurated earlier this year.
However, the question has been raised about the power generation by this particular project. Goyal further said the target has been set to complete all the three units of Ganol by June 30th.
The foundation of this first hydel power project in Garo Hills was laid way back in 2014. The over Rs 560 crore Ganol Hydroelectric Project harnessed the water of Ganol river and utilised three turbine-generator units of 7.5 MW each to generate electricity.
