Meghalaya Chief Secretary DP Wahlang on Wednesday flagged off the Cultural Procession on Tribal Pride by artists, cultural troops and cultural associations, from the Meghalaya Assembly premises at Khyndai Lad.
The procession comprises of about 17 groups of people and two Tableaus displaying the rich cultural heritage of the three tribes of Meghalaya. The Tableaus also depicted the freedom fighters.
It culminated at the premises of the State Central Library.
The cultural procession comprising of cultural troupes representing art and craft villages, educational institutions, ethnic associations and tableaus depicting the three bravehearts and freedom fighters of the state, including the Mobile IEC van of the Viksit Bharat being launched simultaneously in 75 predominantly tribal districts of the country which include, East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills, East Garo Hills & North Garo Hills Districts.
“We are joining rest of the country in observing and commemorating the Jan Jatiya Gaurav Diwas, basically it’s a celebration and recognition of Tribal Pride and Tribal contributions and also honouring the sacrifices of our freedom fighters,” FR Kharkongor, Commissioner & Secretary, Art and Culture said.
He further informed that it’s an effort to inspire the younger generation about the priceless tribal heritage.
“Today is the inaugural as in the morning, the Chief Secretary flagged off the cultural procession which was representing various tribes and also Tableaus depicting sacrifices of freedom fighters to the various cultural legacy to cultural heritage of our state,” Kharkongor added.
