Ending Month long speculation, BJP state president Rikman G Momin on Monday announced the names of the state office bearers.
The party State President Rikman G. Momin said it’s a mixture of both new and old names. Altogether 21 names were announced so far.
The state office bearers of the BJP include 6 state vice presidents – Bernard N Marak, Khrawboklang Basaiawmoit, Wankitbok Pohshna, Dipul R Marak, Gagan Jain, Riya Sangma, 2 state general secretaries – Evarist Myrsing and Lakhon Biam, 6 state secretaries – Hakabiang Lyngdoh, Bernadette Lyngdoh, Adamkid Sangma, Brivia Thabah, Premananda Koch and Bipen Pradhan, state treasurer – Sarwan Jhunjhunwala, office secretary – Arunadhati Paul, state president of Mahila Morcha – Sukhi Pariat, state president of Yuva Morcha – Mewakar Lyngdoh, State president of ST Morcha – Thomas N Marak, state president of Kisan Morcha – Ralden Bryan Shabong and state president of Minority Morcha – Shahidur Rahman.
Addressing the media, Momin said that the party is gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
He said there are some candidates, who have approached the party for ticket from Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats. “However, I will not be able to name them right now but the Centre will announce the candidates,” he said.
Momin said that cabinet minister AL Hek has expressed his interest to contest from Shillong parliamentary seat but it is up to the Central leadership and that his duty is to just send the names of the applicants.
He said the party would welcome any woman candidate to apply for ticket.
“As BJP, it is good if the party can put up women candidates because recently 33% reservation for women has been implemented,” Momin said.
The BJP state president did not want to comment on the performance of the sitting Congress MP from Shillong Vincent H Pala but he expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the sitting NPP MP from Tura Agatha K Sangma.
“Right now I don’t know her (Agatha) performance I dont think she has done a great job because the people have to receive more central schemes but she hasn’t done it for the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Momin said party has zero tolerance for corruption and it will take up such issues if there is any complaint.
