Newly appointed BJP chief spokesperson and former IPS officer Mariahom Kharkrang on Friday expressed gratitude to the BJP led Government at the centre for the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra that is being held across the state currently.
Speaking to the reporters, Kharkrang said, “because of the Yatra, needy people who had never earlier been reached came to know of the various Central Govt. schemes and numerous people could take advantage of them.”
Through this roadshow, the Govt. of India is reaching out to people with basic amenities like sanitation facilities, essential financial services, LPG connections, housing for the poor, food security, reliable healthcare and so much more. People are being educated about the various beneficial schemes and on the spot enrolment for schemes are being carried out.
The Central government is also learning from the citizens in the process so further schemes can be worked out.
“No previous government at the centre has done so much for the poor, nor reached out to people at
such scale”, Khrakrang added.
Amongst these schemes, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojona or free gas scheme is of particular benefit for people who are in the low income category.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) which was launched by the ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is aimed at providing LPG connections to BPL households.
Under the scheme, the government will bear the administrative cost of the LPG connection to BPL.
He further thanked the Central Govt. for extending the free rice scheme from 1 st January 2024, for poor people.
Kharkrang also requested more people from the poorer sections of the state to come forward and take advantage of these schemes. New district presidents and office bearers were also announced.
The new district presidents as announced by the party are – Commanderful Sana for East Khasi Hills, Shaphrang Lyngdoh for West Jaintia Hills, Spasterlin Nongrem for West Khasi Hills, Pelcy Snaitang South West Khasi Hills, Nongkitbok Hujon for Eastern West Khasi Hills, Annanias Nongdhar for East Khasi Hills, Sen Thabah for Ri Bhoi, Daullat Chada Marak for Tura City, Benedict R Marak for West Khasi Hills, Francis Pandit Sangma for East Garo Hills, Callis Momin for South Garo Hills, Boston Marak for South West Garo Hills and Sukharam K Sangma for North Garo Hills. Mariahom Kharkrang, Retd IPS has been installed as district president for Shillong City.
