Meghalaya Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Captain Williamson Sangma State University Amendment Bill (Ordinance) as the state Government aims to establish the main campus by the next academic year.
Speaking to Media, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “As you are aware that we have expanded the scope of the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University and made it into a full-fledged State University now but while we did the amendments to that there were certain other concerns that were raised and after discussion with the Governor and others beside the Education department and the amendment is being done to incorporate certain UGC norms applicable to the State University.”
“Hence the amendment was clear in terms of an ordinance today to put in some UGC norms that will be applicable in the Captain Williamson Sangma State University Act,” the Chief Minister added.
Asked when the state Government starting to set up campuses of the Captain Williamson Sangma State University, Sangma replied, “The process has started and as I said our intention is to start from the next academic year and that’s why we are pushing it fast because we want the CUET issue to be resolved also.”
Stating that the main campus of the University is near Tura on the way to Garobada, the Chief Minister said efforts are on to ensure further expansion of the campus to other districts of the state.
“We want to ensure that the manpower and everything is there in place in time so that we are able to start in the next academic year, atleast in terms of starting the administrative work that is there. Apart from that we have also unofficially discussed the expansion of campus to different parts of the state and definitely it’s on our agenda,” he added.
