Tura, Jan 20: The two football teams from the district of Ribhoi decimated all opposition to win both goals on offer in the sport.
The matches which concluded late evening yesterday, Jan 19 were played at the PA Sangma stadium and was played amongst raucous support for all teams on display.
In the first final, the Ribhoi women’s team (U-18) faced up against their opponents from East Khasi Hills with the play being of very high quality. Both teams failed to score in regulation time leading to extra time being played as well though the deadlock still could not be broken. The match went down to penalties which the Ribhoi team won 3-2.
In the second final (Boys U -18), Ribhoi once again beat their opponents from West Jaintia Hills by a solitary goal. The goal was scored by Riskhem Syiem in an evenly matched contest.
Earlier in the first bronze medal match (Girl’s U-18), Eastern West Khasi Hills (EWKH) was pitted against South West Khasi Hills. This match too went down to the wire with both teams deadlocked at 2 goals apiece.
While Rympeibasuk Syiemlieh scored a brace for the EWKH team, the feat was repeated by Wansaphi Marpha. Eventually EWKH won on penalties with a score line of (6-5).
The second bronze medal match featured EKH and West Garo Hills with the team from EKH having a relatively easy win (3-1) against their opponents to take home the bronze. The goal scorers for EKH were Rodyrgo Sympli, Ricky Mawlong and Aibok Myrthong while Amdoan Sangma pulled one back for the hosts.
