In a major setback to the state BJP in Garo Hills, former Legislator from Baghmara constituency Samuel M Sangma on Thursday joined NPP.
Sangma joined NPP with a large number of supporters and he was welcomed by cabinet Minister and legislator from Williamnagar constituency Marcuise N Marak and MLA from Siju-Rongara constituency Rakkam A Sangma in a function held at Baghmara.
Samuel Sangma – a four-time MLA initially representing Dalu, West Garo Hills district (2003 and 2008) and later Baghmara in South Garo Hills district (2013 and 2018).
He had joined the UDP as its associate member on September 16, 2018. However, just before 2023 Assembly polls, Sangma along with two legislators from NPP and one from TMC resigned and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) where he contested unsuccessfully from the BJP ticket.
