Metbah asserts need for Govt to initiate another round of talks with HNLC

SHILLONG, APR 9: United Democratic Party (UDP) chief Metbah Lyngdoh on Tuesday asserted the need for the government to initiate another round of talks with the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “I think the government should again initiate for another round of talks with them.

He said the government should continue to pursue the HNLC to ensure that they come back for peace talks.

This issue related to peace talks is also one among the many issues that the RDA has promised to take up in its manifesto.

Asked, Lyngdoh said, “Law will take its own course. I think I should not come to any conclusion as far as who is doing it, who is doing what, so I think that it would be inappropriate for me to say anything.”

On the issue of ILP, the UDP chief said the issue is not a state subject.

“As far as ILP is concerned it is a matter that as far as the process which is to be followed, that one has to be at the state level and the central government level,” he said.
