The academic session of the National Law University (NLU) will commence from July of this year. This was informed by Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya, Justice Sanjib Banerjee. While 50 percent students should be domiciled in the state of Meghalaya and the balance 50 percent will be open to others.
Delivering his address as the Chief Guest in the outreach programme organised by the Meghalaya Education Department in collaboration with National Law University, Meghalaya to Principals, Teachers and Students of Higher Secondary Schools from East Khasi Hills and adjoining districts, Justice Sanjib Banerjee said, the academic programme (at National Law University, Meghalaya) will be rolled out on Monday, the 10th of July, 2023.
“For students, the online applications have opened from April 21st and the last date for submitting online applications is 21st of May. There going to be admission test on the 28th of May. The merit list will be published on the 9th of June and the academic programme will be rolled out on Monday, the 10th of July, 2023. Thats when the classes will began,” Justice Banerjee said.
He also informed that for undergraduate courses a total of 60 students will be enrolled, with 20 each in BA LLB, BBA LLB and BS LLB honours and there will be 10 post-graduates students.
“Of the students to join the NLU Megh, 50 percent should be domiciled in the state of Meghalaya and the balance 50 percent will be open to others,” the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court said.
He mentioned that the annual fee structure for the undergraduate and postgraduate programs is much lower than what private colleges and universities and other national universities charge.
The Chief Justice also mentioned that a similar outreach programme will be conducted in Tura on Saturday.
“This institution has come up with the greatest of cooperation and help from the state Government,” he added.
Recently, the National Law University Meghalaya has appointed Professor Dr. Indrajit Dube as its first Vice-Chancellor (VC).
The NLU Meghalaya is the newest among all the NLUs which was established through National Law University Act 2022 with an intake capacity of 60 students to begin with.
The programme was also attended by High Court Judges, Justice H S Thangkhiew and Justice W Diengdoh as Special Guests. Beside them, others who were present included Shri Pravin Bakshi, Commissioner & Secretary, Education, CVD Diengdoh, Secretary, Law & Legal Remembrancer & Parliamentary Affairs among others.
