Ahead of polls, BJP Broke Alliance in Meghalaya: Amit Shah

Stating that Meghalaya is one of the most corrupt states in the country BJP National Leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said ahead of the polls, Meghalaya BJP has broke its alliance from NPP led MDA Government and decided to go solo for the polls.

Addressing an election rally in Tura, Shah said, BJP is contesting in all the 60 seats in Meghalaya.

“Modiji sends various schemes but by the time it reaches Meghalaya, it disappears by the time it reaches state. It fails to reach the public. We want whatever PM Modi sends should reach to the people, for that it is necessary to make BJP stronger. That’s why ahead of the election, we broke alliance with NPP led MDA Government and decided to contest solo in all the 60 seats,” Shah said.

Seeking blessing for the BJP candidates of the Garo Hills, he said,  “In Meghalaya the way corruption took place (in last 5 years) the scale of which is not there in the entire country. Infact amongst the ‘most corrupt state’, if we want to give number than that will be Meghalaya will be on the top, this is the failure of the incumbent Government.”

Slamming the leaders of the state including those leaders from Khasi – Jaintia and Garo Hills who governed the state for the last 50 years, Shah said there has been only corruption in Meghalaya for the last 50 years.

“In the last 50 years, there has been only corruption in Meghalaya, while the entire country since 2014 till 2023 under the leadership of Modiji has witnessed development, development has reached to the last mile but here in Meghalaya, development is not there,” he added.

Criticizing Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma  for tabling  a Rs 1,849-crore deficit budget in the assembly for the fiscal 2022-23, the Union Home Minister said, “Due to the carelessness and mismanagement of the Government, in 2022-23 the state has the deficit 1849 crore. In such a small state, why is there a deficit in such a small state? Because of corruption, this is happening.

According to an RBI report Meghalaya, is the slowest developing state in the country. “

Further on the power sector, the BJP National leaders said, “Meghalaya Energy Corporation is almost in the state of closing down, if Meghalaya energy corporation doesn’t work then 24 hours electricity will not reach to your homes. Until you change the Government, until you ensure the victory of BJP, MeECL will not work. “

He also advocated for a double engine Government which will help in bringing development.

“The Government of Meghalaya and the Government of India when gets together no one can stop the path of development,” the BJP leader said.
